Chennai, Mar 25:
With just two days remaining for voter enrolment, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a final appeal to eligible citizens to apply for inclusion in the electoral rolls to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Commission stressed that only those whose names appear in the electoral roll will be allowed to cast their votes.
“If a person’s name is not in the roll, they can apply online or submit forms through Booth Level Officers. However, this facility is available only till Thursday. Missing the deadline will mean they cannot vote in the ensuing election,” the ECI said in a notification. Citizens can also contact the Voters’ Helpline at 1950 for assistance or use the department’s WhatsApp service at 94441 23456 to obtain details.
Officials noted that extensive awareness campaigns have been conducted, particularly targeting young voters, with regular messages about enrolment procedures and updating voter records.
Following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the total number of voters in the State decreased from 6.41 crore to 5.67 crore, with around three lakh new voters added since. “If citizens enrol now, their names will appear in the supplementary list prepared for the election,” an official said.
The ECI reiterated its appeal, urging all eligible voters to take advantage of this final opportunity before the deadline.
