Chennai, Mar 26:
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Wednesday criticised the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), asking whether former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami would apologise following the conviction of nine policemen in the Sathankulam custodial deaths case.
In its party organ Murasoli, the DMK said the court verdict exposed the “brutal administration” under Palaniswami, who held the Home portfolio during the 2020 incident involving the deaths of Jeyaraj and Bennix in Thoothukudi.
The party alleged that Palaniswami attempted to shield the accused and criticised his initial response to the incident. It also claimed that sustained pressure from M. K. Stalin, then Leader of Opposition, led to the case being handed over to the CBI.
A Madurai court on March 23 found all nine accused policemen guilty, with sentencing scheduled for March 30.
