Chennai, Mar 26:
Renovation work at Chennai Egmore Railway Station is progressing steadily, with railway officials stating that upgrades to suburban (electric train) platforms will be completed by April 5.
The station is undergoing a major redevelopment project worth ₹734.91 crore, launched in February 2023 to cater to increasing passenger traffic. Officials said that more than 50% of the overall work has already been completed.
As part of the ongoing development, platforms 10 and 11 are being upgraded for electric train operations. Additional works include construction of new parking facilities, a parcel office, improved entry points, and enhanced amenities for railway staff.
Renovation of platforms used by express trains is also underway.
Authorities confirmed that suburban train services will resume from April 5 following completion of the platform upgrades, which is expected to significantly improve commuter convenience at one of the city’s busiest railway hubs.
