Kerala Assembly election counting suggest a potential shift in the state’s political landscape, as the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has taken an early lead in 14 seats.
Following a decade-long hiatus from power, the opposition appears to be gaining momentum in the initial rounds of postal ballot counting.
In a notable development, the BJP is currently leading in 5 seats, including a lead for Shobha Surendran in the Palakkad constituency, while the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) is trailing with leads in 4 seats.
This early data comes after a high voter turnout of approximately 79.7% and follows exit poll projections that suggested a possible return to power for the UDF.
While LDF leaders have expressed confidence in securing a historic third consecutive term, the initial numbers show a neck-and-neck struggle between the Left and the BJP for the second position.
With 140 seats in the Assembly, the situation remains highly dynamic as counting moves from postal ballots to EVM rounds across the state’s 43 counting centers.
