Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Norway Chess tournament, marking a landmark moment for Indian chess on the global stage.
The 20-year-old achieved the feat in dominant fashion, capping off a remarkable campaign against some of the world’s best players, including former world champion Magnus Carlsen.
Praggnanandhaa’s triumph is being hailed as a breakthrough moment, as the Norway Chess tournament has traditionally been dominated by elite international players, particularly Carlsen on home soil.
His victory signals a shift in global chess power, with India emerging as a strong force in the sport.
The young Grandmaster entered the final stages of the tournament in top form, registering key wins against leading players, including Carlsen and reigning world champion D Gukesh.
