Chennai, July 1:
The Government of Tamil Nadu has issued detailed guidelines for the implementation of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission–Gramin (VB-G RAM-G), which will be rolled out across the State from Wednesday. The scheme is aimed at strengthening rural employment and livelihood opportunities.
According to the guidelines, every eligible rural household will be entitled to a minimum of 125 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year. The government has emphasized timely wage payments, directing that wages be disbursed on a weekly basis. However, payments must be completed within 15 days from the date of work completion.
The guidelines further state that if wages are not paid within the stipulated 15-day period after the closure of the muster roll, workers will be entitled to compensation for the delay. This provision is intended to ensure accountability and protect the rights of wage seekers.
To facilitate effective implementation, the government has established multiple planning and monitoring bodies at the State, district, and village levels. A Village Panchayat Development Plan will be prepared to identify and prioritize works under the scheme, ensuring that local needs are addressed efficiently.
In addition, the Tamil Nadu Rural Employment Guarantee Council has been constituted to advise the government on all matters related to the scheme. The council will be chaired by the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj. A State-Level Steering Committee, headed by the Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, will oversee the overall implementation and monitor progress.
At the district level, District Collectors have been appointed as Programme Coordinators, while gram sabhas will play a key role in monitoring the execution of works. The initiative is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and employment opportunities in rural areas across Tamil Nadu.
