Chennai, July 3:
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday criticised Governor Rajendra Arlekar for holding a review meeting with government officials in Madurai, alleging that it violated the spirit of the Constitution and infringed upon the rights of the State.
In a strong statement, Udhayanidhi also targeted the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government for permitting the Governor to conduct such a meeting. He described the move as an encroachment on the powers of the elected government and said it compromised the State’s autonomy.
Recalling the previous All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) regime, the DMK leader said his party had strongly opposed similar attempts by the Governor to review government departments.
“The DMK did not allow such a practice. But TVK does. Is this the change they promised?” he questioned, intensifying the political criticism.
