Chennai, July 28:

The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) has sanctioned 1,030 posts to support the operation and maintenance of 232 newly commissioned substations across the state, addressing staff shortages and recurring power disruptions.

According to an official order issued on July 24, the sanctioned posts are part of an immediate measure to ensure adequate manpower for the substations. However, a larger proposal seeking approval for a total of 2,431 posts is still pending with the State government.

The 232 substations include 139 new 33 kV substations, 88 non-grid 110 kV substations, three grid-connected 110 kV substations, and two 230 kV substations. Of the 1,030 posts approved, 556 will be deployed at 33 kV substations, 440 at non-grid 110 kV substations, 18 at grid-connected 110 kV substations, and 16 at 230 kV substations.

Officials said the additional workforce would significantly enhance preventive maintenance, enable faster restoration during power outages, and improve emergency response during adverse weather conditions.

Authorities have been directed to deploy the sanctioned personnel immediately, while efforts continue to secure approval for the remaining posts required to fully staff the substations.
