Aichi-Nagoya, Sept 29:
Indian shooters Neeru Dhanda, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer won the silver medal in the women’s trap team event at the Asian Games on Tuesday, taking India’s shooting medal tally to 13.
The Indian trio finished with a combined score of 328 after the three-day, 125-shot qualification round at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery. China won the gold medal with an aggregate score of 346, while Kuwait secured the bronze with 325.
Neeru Dhanda also qualified for the individual final after finishing joint-top in the qualification round with a score of 118. However, Aashima and Manisha missed out on the individual final. Aashima scored 106 to finish 16th, while Manisha recorded 104 and finished 23rd.
The men’s trap qualification is also underway, with Kynan Chenai, Shapath Bharadwaj and Azhar Rizvi competing in both the individual qualification and team events. On Monday, Esha Singh had won silver in the women’s 25m pistol after narrowly missing out on gold in a dramatic shoot-off against China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan.
Esha and Xiao were tied at 38 hits after 50 shots, matching the Asian Games record and forcing a shoot-off. Both hit four of five targets in the first shoot-off, before Xiao won the second 3-2 to claim gold.
Esha’s silver was her second successive Asian Games medal in the event after finishing runner-up at Hangzhou 2023. Overall, India have won 46 medals at the ongoing Asian Games — four gold, 21 silver and 21 bronze.
