Nagoya, Sept 29:
India had three boxers fighting for places in the Asian Games finals on Tuesday, with Parveen, Ankush and Narender taking the ring in their respective semi-finals.
Parveen competed in the women’s 65kg category, while Ankush was in action in the men’s 80kg class. Narender contested the men’s over-90kg semi-final.
All three had already secured medals by reaching the last four and were looking to move into the gold-medal bouts.
Boxing has emerged as an important medal sport for India at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, with several Indian pugilists progressing deep into the competition. The semi-final results were expected to determine India’s presence in the final medal contests.
