Tiruchy, Oct 6:
HR&CE Minister S Ramesh on Monday dismissed allegations that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was distributing money to voters or transferring cash through GPay to influence voters in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram bypolls.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a community baby shower programme in Tiruchy, Ramesh said the TVK was contesting the bypolls in both constituencies fairly. He said party leaders and cadres had carried out an intensive campaign in Dharapuram, including door-to-door outreach.
Ramesh claimed that the campaign had changed the minds of voters and that many people had assured TVK leaders and cadres of their support.
The minister alleged that Opposition parties were mobilising people wherever TVK cadres campaigned and creating a false narrative that the ruling party was facing opposition from the public.
Responding to a charge by the CPI(M) State Secretary that the TVK was transferring money through GPay, Ramesh termed the allegation baseless.
“We don’t need to distribute money to the voters as our achievements in just four months would get us a favourable result. The welfare schemes that have been launched by the TVK government have good reception among the people,” he said.
Ramesh also alleged that the previous DMK government had prevented TVK president and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay from meeting people during the Assembly general elections.
“Since the TVK formed the government, the party president and CM has been meeting the people in each village, and he will continue to meet the people,” he added.
