Tirupati: The police yesterday rescued a three-month-old baby boy stolen from a couple at the Lord Venkateswara temple complex in Tirumala on Sunday and arrested the woman abductor.
After the couple lodged a complaint with the police after noticing their child missing, the officials scanned CCTV footage near the spot and found a woman carrying away their child at around 3 am. The hunt for the woman began and her photographs and footage were released to the media and posted on the social media also.
Following this, some locals recognised the woman and informed the police that she was working at a restaurant on the Tirumala hills. Her mobile number from the restaurant was taken and tracked, which led to her arrest from suburban Mangalam quarters area in Tirupati.
The woman had in the meantime managed to find shelter with an unsuspecting family there. Investigations revealed that the 30-year-old woman who hailed from a village on Andhra-Tamil Nadu border was deserted by her husband on the grounds of pregnancy-related issues.
She had apparently come to the hills with an intention of stealing a new born. She found a job in a restaurant and made rounds at night near at the temple complex in search of baby. She had planned on settling down with her parents in a village in Tamilnadu.
