Chennai: From today, Greater Chennai city police have started taking action against those who go to shops on two-wheelers to buy essential things including vegetables.
This is being done to prevent those who who go to other areas in the guise of buying things.
“All shops are available in all areas. Hence, there is no need to go to other localities to buy things. But, in the name of going to shops, some people go to other areas to meet friends and for other purposes,” said a police officer.
Stating that such acts increase the chances of coronavirus spread, he said people have been asked to go to shops by walk. ‘If anyone takes out two-wheeler, action will be taken against them,’ he added.
According to statistics provided by the DGP’s office today, as many as 2,81,975 violations were recorded by the police. FIRs have been filed against the offenders.
The release said that, nearly 2,99,108 were arrested. Apart from this, around 2,52,943 vehicles were seized by the police. A fine amount of Rs 2,91,38,654 has been collected by the police.
