Chennai: Taking cognisance of the ongoing farmer protests at Delhi, the Supreme Court on Wednesday stated that it shall form a committee comprising representatives of all the warring groups, as the current negotiations do not seem to be working.
The top court had also issued notices to the Centre, and the governments of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana, and had asked them to respond by today.
Expressing that the deadlock might soon become a National issue, the bench said, “Your negotiation does not seem to work apparently. You should be willing to negotiate, and we should also have a farmer before us who is willing to negotiate”.
The court was hearing a series of petitions related to the protests, such as wanting the National Human Rights Commission to investigate if there was any police assault on the farmers, and another seeking to allow the farmers enter Delhi and protest at Jantar Mantar.
“Most of these petitions appear to be ill-conceived. We don’t see any legal issue except freedom of movement that is admittedly caused by people who are not party before us,” the bench said.
