Chennai, Nov 20: In a significant development for the infrastructure landscape of Rameswaram, Roop Narayan Sunkar, member infrastructure RB, recently announced that the much-anticipated Pamban vertical bridge is slated for inauguration in February 2024. Sunkar, who inspected various infrastructural projects in Rameswaram, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Pamban vertical bridge, revealing that approximately 90% of the work on the bridge has been completed.
Despite encountering some initial delays, Sunkar commended the quality of work carried out on the Pamban vertical bridge. The necessity for a new vertical bridge arises from the damage sustained by the old bridge, emphasizing the critical role the new structure will play in enhancing connectivity and transportation in the region.
During his inspection, Sunkar also evaluated the ongoing station redevelopment work at Rameswaram railway station. The rejuvenation of railway stations is a vital aspect of the broader effort to modernize and improve the railway infrastructure, providing passengers with enhanced facilities and services.
A noteworthy aspect of the Railways’ initiatives in the region is the proposed railway line between Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi. Sunkar revealed that the Railways has been in constant communication with the Tamil Nadu government and is eagerly awaiting approval and land allocation for the project. The railway line project has completed surveys and other necessary works, affirming its feasibility.
The proposed railway line, running parallel to the present route, is designed to be elevated, safeguarding it from the impact of low and high tides.
