In a tragic incident from the Thiruverumbur area of Tiruchy, a schoolgirl lost her life after consuming noodles purchased from the online platform Amazon. The girl had cooked and eaten the noodles at home, only to fall seriously ill within a few hours, leading to her untimely death. Following this incident, the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department has issued orders to inspect noodle sales, manufacturing warehouses, and other related establishments across the state. The inspections will focus on verifying the quality certificates and batch details of the ingredients used in noodle production. In Trichy alone, authorities have seized 800 kilograms of expired noodles from a wholesale distributor.Addressing the media, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian stated, “The girl consumed Chinese ‘Bulldak’ noodles bought from Amazon. An investigation was conducted, and expired food items were seized from the wholesale seller.”
This incident has raised serious concerns about food safety, especially regarding online purchases and the need for stringent checks to prevent such tragedies.
