Former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan launched a scathing attack on the political moves of actor Vijay, leader of Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (TVK), asserting that there is no need for another Dravidian party in Tamil Nadu. Soundararajan’s remarks came during a press interaction at Kamalalayam, the BJP’s state headquarters, where she was celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
Addressing the gathering, Tamilisai expressed disappointment over Vijay’s recent appearance at Periyar Thidal, stating, “I was under the impression that Vijay would take a unique path in politics, but it seems he is following in the footsteps of the DMK. There is no space for another political party aligned with Dravidian ideologies. If Vijay chooses a nationalistic direction, only then will his political journey have long-term success.”
She further emphasized that Tamil Nadu needs new political options that extend beyond Dravidian ideologies, suggesting that Vijay’s recent actions align him with the existing Dravidian framework. Tamilisai also pointed out the resistance Vijay has faced from the ruling DMK government, which, according to her, doesn’t want his films to be screened or his political activities to gain momentum. “If he chooses the national path, he has a great future ahead,” she added.
Shifting her focus to Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan, Tamilisai criticized his anti-liquor stance, accusing him of hypocrisy. “Thirumavalavan, who started his political career with much strength, has now been reduced to a shadow of his former self. Those running Tasmac (state-run liquor stores) are the very sponsors of his anti-liquor conferences, which will bring no real change to Tamil Nadu.”
Her remarks have raised eyebrows, particularly given Thirumavalavan’s consistent advocacy on social justice and anti-liquor campaigns. Tamilisai’s criticism suggests a strategic attack on the alliance between the VCK and the ruling DMK, positioning the BJP as a viable alternative in the state’s political landscape.
