Former Minister Senthil Balaji, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in June last year under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), had his judicial custody extended once again. He has been in custody following charges filed against him in August 2023, with trial proceedings currently underway.Senthil Balaji, who is currently lodged in Puzhal Central Prison, was produced before the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai yesterday via video conference. Judge S. Alli presided over the hearing.
The court ordered an extension of his judicial custody until September 26, marking the 61st extension since his arrest. In the ongoing case, three witnesses have been examined and cross-examined so far. Yesterday, Manivannan, the Assistant Director of the Forensic Science Department’s Computer Forensics Division, testified as the fourth witness.
Following his testimony, Senthil Balaji’s defense requested a cross-examination, and the case was adjourned to September 26 for further proceedings.
