Hindu Munnani, a right-wing organization, has raised questions about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s approach to religious matters, accusing him of using devotion for political gain. The organization’s state president, Kadeswara Subramaniam, issued a statement criticizing Stalin’s remarks during the Marundeeswarar Temple festival in Thiruvanmiyur, where the CM allegedly stated that devotion is being used for political purposes.
In his statement, Subramaniam pointed out that while free marriages are conducted using temple funds, Chief Minister Stalin takes the credit for the initiative without acknowledging the source. He further questioned why Stalin does not directly participate in any spiritual activities held at temples, noting that the CM only joins via video conferencing and not in person. Subramaniam called on Stalin to clarify the kind of devotion this represents.
He also questioned Stalin’s behavior during temple visits, specifically why he wipes off the holy ash (vibhuti) after receiving it, making it appear as though he avoids public display of religious symbols. Subramaniam labeled this as “political drama,” questioning whether Stalin’s actions are motivated by politics or secularism.
The Hindu Munnani leader further criticized the government for failing to take action against those who have allegedly insulted the worship of Lord Murugan by mocking the Kandha Sashti Kavasam and Vel worship practices. He questioned why Stalin has allowed the construction of bus stands, courts, and collectorate offices on temple lands without intervening. Subramaniam accused Stalin of attempting to eradicate Sanatana Dharma for political gains, branding it as hypocritical and opportunistic.
Subramaniam also took aim at Stalin’s claims of conducting Kumbhabhishekam ceremonies at over 2,000 temples across Tamil Nadu, challenging the government to release a white paper detailing the expenses incurred for these ceremonies. He concluded by questioning Stalin’s intentions, suggesting that his political agenda is disguised as religious devotion, and urged him to recognize the importance of preserving Hindu traditions.
