Chennai Metrowater to Set Up Advanced Water Filtration Facility at Marina Beach Swimming PoolChennai Metrowater is set to launch a state-of-the-art water filtration and recycling facility at the iconic swimming pool on Marina Beach. The project, which is valued at ₹3.41 crore, aims to treat up to 4.5 million litres of water daily, significantly improving the pool’s water management system.
The swimming pool, originally constructed in 1942 and managed by the Greater Chennai Corporation since 1977, is undergoing a significant renovation. The upgrade will include the introduction of modern amenities, additional trainers, and improved services for visitors. The facility’s outdated cleaning system, which has been in place for the last two decades, requires manual intervention for maintenance. This has prompted the decision to set up a new, more efficient filtration system.
The water filtration facility, designed to enhance the pool’s operations, will be managed by Chennai Metrowater for a period of five years. Work on the project is expected to begin in January 2025, marking a new chapter in the pool’s long history. Once completed, the system will ensure cleaner, more sustainable water usage, benefiting both the pool’s visitors and the local community.
