The Central Crime Branch police in Chennai arrested Srirangam Rangarajan Narasimhan on charges of making derogatory remarks about Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on social media.
The controversy stems from Rangarajan’s social media post, in which he alleged that Udhayanidhi had invited three Jeeyars (monastic heads) to his residence, performed rituals including washing their feet, and received blessings from them. He further claimed that the Deputy CM hosted them with food and gifts, purportedly for political gains and appeasement ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Rangarajan’s post criticized Udhayanidhi, accusing him of disrespecting Brahmins and using religious rituals for political purposes. He also accused political parties of misusing the concept of Sanatana Dharma and warned them against succumbing to political pressures.
The statements drew sharp criticism from the Jeeyars, who filed an official complaint through the Sriperumbudur Jeeyar with the Chennai Police Commissioner. They demanded legal action against Rangarajan for his offensive remarks, which they claimed defamed their religious and cultural practices.
Following the complaint, the Central Crime Branch investigated the matter and arrested Rangarajan Narasimhan in Srirangam.
