Gnanasekaran, a DMK functionary arrested in connection with the Anna University sexual harassment case, has been detained under the Goondas Act.Last month, a female student from Anna University alleged sexual harassment, a case that sent shockwaves across Tamil Nadu. The accused, Gnanasekaran, was arrested following the victim’s complaint. She claimed he referred to another person as “Sir” during a phone conversation, raising questions about the identity of the individual involved. Opposition parties have since intensified their demands for accountability.
A special investigation team (SIT) comprising three members was formed to probe the incident. On Wednesday, the team conducted a raid at Gnanasekaran’s residence, seizing several documents as part of the investigation. Based on their findings, the SIT recommended that Gnanasekaran be detained under the Goondas Act.
This is the fourth time Gnanasekaran has been booked under the Goondas Act, with over 20 cases already pending against him. The stringent preventive detention measure reflects the authorities’ commitment to addressing such heinous crimes and ensuring public safety.
The case continues to draw significant public attention, with opposition parties and activists demanding strict action and systemic changes to prevent such incidents in the future.
Amidst reports on the seizure of electronic gadgets containing obscene contents of the survivor girl and the special investigation team identifying one person from Tirupur as the second accused in the Anna University sexual assault case, the state police headquarters on Saturday clarified that no competent authority has issued any such statement and the content and information related to the investigation being circulated in the public domain is completely false and without any basis.
