Minister for Housing and Urban Development S Muthusamy expressed confidence on Sunday that DMK candidate VC Chandrakumar would secure a resounding victory in the Erode East bypoll, with a projected margin of 1.20 lakh votes.
Speaking to reporters in Erode, Muthusamy acknowledged that while some may have reservations about the choice of candidate, the party remains united in its efforts to ensure Chandrakumar’s win. He credited Chief Minister MK Stalin’s successful implementation of welfare schemes for the party’s strong standing.
“In the last bypoll, EVKS Elangovan won with a margin of 66,000 votes. Since then, Stalin has fulfilled several poll promises, which will boost our victory margin to 1.20 lakh votes. We will approach voters by highlighting the achievements of the State government,” Muthusamy said.
The Minister also addressed concerns about delays in implementing certain projects, attributing them to the State’s financial constraints. He reassured the public that the government remains committed to fulfilling all promises.
Responding to allegations from opposition parties regarding irregularities in the previous bypoll, Muthusamy denied claims that voters were forcibly confined in sheds. He maintained that people participated willingly and dismissed the accusations as baseless attempts to discredit the process.
