The Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) office has denied allegations made by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kalpana Nayak that a conspiracy was plotted to kill her.
The controversy stems from a fire accident that occurred last July at the headquarters of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) in Egmore, Chennai. The unexpected fire led to widespread speculation at the time.
ADGP Kalpana Nayak had alleged that the fire was deliberately set as part of a murder plot against her. She claimed that she had raised concerns about irregularities in reservation policies for sub-inspector recruitment, which led to a conspiracy to eliminate her.
However, the DGP’s office has issued a clarification, dismissing her allegations. According to the official statement, an internal departmental inquiry was conducted into the incident. The investigation, led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Central Crime Branch, involved the examination of 31 witnesses.
The inquiry found no evidence to suggest that the fire in Kalpana Nayak’s room was intentionally set. The report stated that there was no proof of foul play or any attempt to murder her. The fire was investigated on the same day it occurred, and the forensic report indicated that the cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit, ruling out sabotage.
Thus, the DGP’s office has categorically denied any conspiracy behind the incident.
