In response to the recent kidnapping of a young woman at knifepoint from the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus in Kilambakkam, the Tambaram police have implemented stricter security guidelines to prevent such incidents in the future.New Security Measures for Auto-Rickshaws
To enhance passenger safety, the police have enforced the following regulations for auto-rickshaws operating at the terminus:
Only registered prepaid auto-rickshaws are authorized to pick up passengers.
Unregistered autos that drop off passengers must leave without picking up new passengers.
Special monitoring counters will be set up at entry points and inside the terminus to track auto-rickshaws.
If a non-prepaid auto is found violating these rules, it will be seized and strict action will be taken against the driver.
Registered prepaid auto drivers will be issued identity cards and must display a government-issued sticker on their vehicle.
All authorized autos will be equipped with GPS tracking and monitored in real time.
Incident That Led to the Crackdown
The security measures were enforced after a shocking incident in which a young woman, waiting near the terminus, was kidnapped by an auto driver and two accomplices. The trio assaulted her at knifepoint, but the police successfully rescued the victim and arrested the suspects.
Ensuring Passenger Safety
With these new guidelines, the police aim to eliminate unauthorized vehicles, monitor driver activity, and ensure safer travel for passengers using the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus.
