Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has accused the ruling DMK of hypocrisy and doublespeak on the issue of Hindi imposition. Responding to recent incidents where DMK cadres defaced Hindi letters on railway station signboards, he alleged that the party was using language politics as a distraction from its governance failures.“The DMK’s opposition to Hindi is a facade. While they claim to protect Tamil, their leaders send their children to schools that teach multiple languages, including Hindi,” Annamalai said in a statement.
He also criticized the government for prioritizing private schools over government institutions, despite spending ₹44,000 crore annually on education. “Government school enrollments in Tamil medium are declining, while private schools linked to DMK leaders are flourishing,” he added.
Annamalai’s remarks have intensified the political debate over language policies in Tamil Nadu.
