The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is constructing a state-of-the-art cattle shelter in Royapuram to provide a safe space for stray and abandoned cows. The facility is designed to accommodate 182 to 200 animals, offering them a spacious and well-maintained environment. The shelter will feature spacious enclosures and artistic murals to create a comfortable atmosphere for the animals. Additionally, a dedicated veterinary care unit will be established within the premises to provide on-site medical treatment for sick or injured cows.
To ensure proper upkeep and feeding of the cattle, the shelter will be managed by a charitable organization. The daily maintenance fee for each cow has been fixed at âč10, which will cover their food and basic care.
With this initiative, GCC aims to address the increasing issue of stray cattle in Chennai and ensure their well-being and safety. The new facility is expected to reduce road accidents caused by wandering cattle and provide them with a secure and nurturing environment.
