Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay has criticized the Tamil Nadu government, calling its actions undemocratic. He condemned the police for allegedly attacking women volunteers who were helping fire victims in Chennai.On May 26, a fire broke out in the Vyasarpadi-Mullai Nagar area, destroying several huts. TVK volunteers provided food, clothes, and blankets to the affected families. However, police reportedly stopped them and asked them to leave.
When TVK district committee member Gangavathi questioned the police, she was allegedly kicked in the stomach. Another volunteer, Tamizhselvi, was reportedly pulled by her clothes and pushed. Both women were admitted to Stanley Government Hospital for treatment.
Vijay questioned why helping fire victims was treated as a crime. He asked if Chief Minister M.K. Stalin approved of such police behavior. Vijay stated that the current actions of the government do not reflect democracy but authoritarianism.
