Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan visited Velusamypuram in Karur district today to meet the families of the 41 victims who died in a stampede during a rally organized by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on September 27.
Accompanied by former minister Senthil Balaji, Haasan visited the affected families, offering condolences and support. He emphasized that the organizers must take responsibility for the tragedy. “It is time to apologize and accept the mistake,” he said. He also praised the Tamil Nadu police for their efforts during the incident, stating that they should be thanked, not questioned.
The Madras High Court has ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the incident and temporarily banned rallies. Haasan urged restraint during the ongoing investigation.
The tragedy has prompted widespread grief and calls for accountability, with political leaders and citizens alike demanding justice for the victims.
