A tragic stampede occurred in Karur during an election campaign event led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay, resulting in the unfortunate death of 41 people. In response, the Madras High Court set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Asra Garg to probe how the incident happened.
Recently, the Supreme Court intervened and ordered the case to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), leading to a suspension of the SIT’s operations. Following this decision, the SIT handed over all related documents and testimonies to the Karur Criminal Court, and these materials will be transferred to the CBI for further investigation.
