The Madras High Court has raised questions to the police regarding the transfer of the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister and DMK general secretary Duraimurugan.
The court asked why the case, originally being heard in the Vellore court, was moved to a special court in Chennai.
According to Duraimuruganās legal team, the Supreme Court has already imposed a stay on the proceedings before the Chennai Special Court. Taking note of this, the Madras High Court adjourned the hearing of the case to November 24, and directed the police to file an explanation on the transfer decision.
The case, filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in 2011, alleges that Duraimurugan and his wife amassed assets worth about Rs 1.40 crore, disproportionate to their known sources of income, during his tenure as PWD Minister between 2006 and 2011.
