The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu on Monday strongly condemned the brutal gang sexual assault of a college student near Coimbatore International Airport. They accused the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government of severe lapses in law and order and of failing to protect women.
BJP state president Nainar Nagenthiran said that the incident has sent shockwaves across the state. He claimed that under the DMK’s rule, women live in constant fear and that the promise of safe governance is now hollow.
Former governor and senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan described the event as a “shameful reflection” of the state government’s collapse on women’s safety. She demanded swift justice and strong punishment for the perpetrators.
Another BJP leader, K Annamalai, called the case a “grim reminder” of deteriorating law and order in Tamil Nadu. He alleged that the police machinery is collapsing and the government is shielding criminals.
The BJP’s remarks come in the wake of mounting concerns about women’s security and the effectiveness of policing in Tamil Nadu. With the 2026 assembly elections ahead, the opposition has seized on this case to challenge the government’s record.
