Banks across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will remain closed for four days in observance of the Pongal festival, the Indian Bankers’ Association (IBA) has announced.
The holiday schedule applies to all public and private sector banks, as well as cooperative banks in the region.
According to the notification, banks will be shut from January 14 to January 17, resuming normal operations on January 18. The extended break is in line with the state’s festive calendar and will cover the main days of Pongal celebrations, including Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal.
Bank officials have advised customers to plan their financial transactions — including cash withdrawals, cheque deposits and payments — in advance to avoid inconvenience during the holiday period. Essential banking services such as ATMs, internet and mobile banking will continue to be available, though customers may experience higher traffic on digital platforms during the break.
