Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has written a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Union Government to withdraw the recent decision that makes the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) mandatory for admissions to certain paramedical courses from the upcoming academic year.
In the letter, Stalin highlighted the recent directive by the National Commission for Allied and Health Care Professions (NCAHP), which requires candidates to appear for NEET in order to gain admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.P.T.) and Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (B.O.T.) programmes starting next academic year.
The Chief Minister described this decision as “hasty and ad hoc” and warned that it could lead to serious negative consequences, especially for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He argued that forcing students to take NEET for these courses would increase financial burden due to coaching and exam-related expenses, pushing many families into hardship.
In the letter, the CM urged that admissions to allied health and paramedical courses should continue under the jurisdiction of the state government, and the recent requirement for NEET be reviewed and rescinded immediately.
