The upcoming mission will focus on manufacturing semiconductor equipment and critical materials, while also encouraging the development of full-stack Indian chip design and IT capabilities. A key objective of ISM 2.0 is to fortify domestic and global supply chains, positioning India as a reliable hub in the global semiconductor value chain.
To support this expansion, the government has proposed a significant enhancement of the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme, increasing the outlay to ₹40,000 crore. The move is expected to accelerate investments, attract global technology players, and boost indigenous manufacturing of electronic components, said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the Union Budget today.
Officials say ISM 2.0 will complement existing fabrication and assembly initiatives, generate high-skilled employment, and align with India’s broader vision of becoming a self-reliant and globally competitive electronics and semiconductor powerhouse.
