Pressure is mounting in Tamil Nadu to revoke the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order that mandates the singing of Vande Mataram in schools and colleges across the State.
Several social and political organisations have stepped up their protests, arguing that the directive goes against cultural sentiments and threatens the secular fabric of education. They contend that Vande Mataram, while patriotic, has religious connotations that make it unsuitable as a compulsory song in diverse classrooms.
Leaders and activists have held meetings and rallies to voice their objections, urging the State government to intervene and push for a review or complete withdrawal of the MHA order. Some have also threatened legal action if the directive is enforced without reconsideration.
