Tehran, Mar 2: A joint US-Israeli strike on a girls’ elementary school in Iran’s Hormozgan province killed 148 people and wounded 95, mostly students, along with teachers and parents, local prosecutor Ebrahim Taheri told Tasnim news agency.
The attacks on Saturday targeted Tehran and other cities, including Tabriz, Qom, Isfahan, Kermanshah, and Karaj, killing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Defence Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani, and IRGC chief Mohammad Pakpour.
Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes against US and Israeli bases across the region.
US Central Command said operations, named Operation Epic Fury, are ongoing, reporting minimal damage to US installations and no casualties.
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth described it as a highly precise campaign aimed at destroying Iran’s missiles, missile production, and navy, reaffirming that Iran will never obtain nuclear weapons.
Experts noted the next 72–96 hours are critical to gauge Iran’s retaliatory capacity.
