Chennai district has recorded a total of 28.93 lakh voters across its 16 Assembly constituencies, according to the latest electoral roll released by election authorities ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections.
Officials said the updated list shows a steady rise in voter enrollment, reflecting increased participation in the democratic process. A major highlight is the addition of 74,089 first-time voters, indicating strong enrolment among newly eligible young citizens. This surge is expected to play an important role in shaping the electoral outcome in the city.
The gender-wise breakup shows a relatively balanced distribution of voters. The district has 13.95 lakh male voters, 14.96 lakh female voters, and 868 third gender voters, with female voters forming a slight majority, continuing a positive trend in voter registration.
Age-wise data indicates strong participation across all groups, with the largest segment falling in the 40–49 age category at 6.54 lakh voters. This is followed by 30–39 years with 5.46 lakh voters and 20–29 years with 4.87 lakh voters. The 18–19 age group accounts for 74,089 voters, marking the entry of new young electors into the system.
Election officials said the updated figures highlight a broad and diverse voter base in Chennai, with significant representation from both youth and middle-aged groups as the State heads into a crucial electoral phase.
