Madurai, Apr 27:
The grand Meenakshi–Sundareswarar Thirukalyanam, the highlight of the Chithirai Festival, was celebrated with great devotion and splendour at the Meenakshi Amman Temple.
The temple mandapam was beautifully decorated with colourful flowers and fragrant tulsi garlands, creating a divine atmosphere. Amid the chanting of Vedic hymns and the sound of traditional musical instruments, the celestial wedding of Meenakshi Amman and Lord Sundareswarar was solemnised in the presence of thousands of devotees.
During the sacred ceremony, Meenakshi Amman was adorned in silk attire, and the holy mangalsutra studded with diamonds was ceremonially tied. The moment was marked by resounding chants of “Meenakshi… Sokkanaatha…” from the gathered devotees.
Lakhs of devotees from across the country thronged Madurai to witness the divine wedding. Following tradition, women devotees changed their sacred thali threads after the ceremony, praying for the well-being and longevity of their marital life.
The event once again highlighted the deep spiritual and cultural significance of the Madurai Chithirai Festival.
