Chennai, May 12:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK founder C Joseph Vijay is set to face a crucial trust vote in the State Assembly today, just days after assuming office, in a politically charged atmosphere marked by shifting alliances and legal interventions.
The ruling TVK, which emerged as a new force in the State after winning 108 seats, has secured support from key allies including the Congress and several smaller parties, taking its effective backing slightly above the halfway mark in the 234-member House.
However, last-minute uncertainty emerged after a Madras High Court order restrained one of its MLAs from participating in the vote, following a petition challenging his election.
The Opposition AIADMK, led by Edappadi K Palaniswami, remains divided, with one faction continuing to oppose the government while reports suggest around 30 ârebelâ MLAs may extend support to the TVK leadership, further strengthening Vijayâs position.
Adding to the fluid situation, expelled AMMK MLA Kamaraj has also announced support for the Chief Minister during the vote, despite internal party disputes raised by T T V Dhinakaran.
