Chennai,  June 13:

Police have registered a case against a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary for allegedly harassing a woman working as the in-charge of a women’s fitness centre in Alandur. The investigation is currently under way.

According to police sources, the complainant, a resident of Alandur, is employed as the person in charge of a women’s corporation-run fitness centre in Ward 160.

In her complaint lodged with the St Thomas Mount police, she alleged that the TVK functionary, identified as Vembuli, who serves as the Alandur North area secretary, harassed her and pressured her to comply with his demands in order to retain her position at the facility.

She further alleged that the accused frequently visited her residence during late hours, causing her distress and harassment.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act and have initiated a detailed investigation into the allegations.

Meanwhile, the party’s Chennai suburban district leadership has acted against the accused, stating that his conduct had brought disrepute to the organisation. He has been removed from all party posts, including primary membership, by district secretary Saravanan.

Police also confirmed that efforts are underway to trace Vembuli, who is currently absconding, and further investigation is in progress.
