Chennai, June 30:

Former Ambasamudram MLA Isakki Subbiah has informed the Madras High Court that his resignation from the MLA post was entirely voluntary and made of his own free will, dismissing allegations of horse-trading as mere speculation.

The submission comes in response to a petition filed by AIADMK whip Agri Krishnamoorthy, seeking to invalidate the Speaker’s acceptance of resignation letters submitted by four AIADMK MLAs while disqualification proceedings were pending.

In his counter affidavit, Subbiah stated that the communication issued by the AIADMK whip—directing MLAs to vote against the TVK government—did not include any legal proof of Krishnamoorthy’s appointment as whip. He further said that he chose to vote in support of the TVK government along with the majority of MLAs.

Subbiah noted that he was subsequently removed from party responsibilities for backing the government. He added that he resigned from his MLA position 13 days after the confidence vote, purely out of personal conviction.

Addressing claims made in the disqualification petition, Subbiah alleged that his signature, obtained for a different purpose, was misused in a resolution related to the election of Edappadi K. Palaniswami as the AIADMK legislature party leader.

He also stated that he had already provided an explanation to the Speaker regarding the disqualification proceedings and emphasized that his decision to resign stemmed from a complete loss of confidence in the party.

Calling the allegations of horse-trading baseless, Subbiah urged the court to dismiss the petition filed by Agri Krishnamoorthy with costs.
