Floral tributes were paid to former Tamil Nadu CM and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi on his eighth death anniversary here on Friday.
DMK President and former CM M K Stalin, accompanied by senior party leaders and former Ministers, garlanded Karunanidhi’s statue at the Omandurar Government Estate in Chennai and led a silent rally to his memorial on the Marina beach front, where he placed a wreath and paid floral tributes.
The memorial of Karunanidhi was decorated with flowers on the occasion as a large number of DMK cadres who accompanied Stalin also paid rich tributes to the late leader.
Later, Stalin also paid floral tributes to a decorated portrait of Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram and CIT Colony residences and at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam.
Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, including in various parts of the city, DMK workers paid floral tributes to the portrait of Karunanidhi to mark the occasion.
Earlier, Stalin shared an emotional tribute on X, remembering his father as a towering figure who shaped modern Tamil Nadu.
In his post, Stalin hailed Karunanidhi as a leader with over 80 years of public life, who led a major political movement for more than half a century and served as Chief Minister five times. He described him as a visionary who signed countless government files that transformed the destiny of the state and as the architect of modern Tamil Nadu.
He also highlighted Karunanidhi’s vast contributions beyond politics—spanning literature, cinema, theatre, television, and modern platforms—calling him a permanent Tamil icon who excelled across generations.
