We The Leaders organisation president K. Annamalai on Thursday said the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly should serve as an effective forum for discussing the problems and concerns of the people.
Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Annamalai expressed concern over recent scenes from the Assembly and said the developments did not give him satisfaction.
He said legislators must use the House primarily to debate issues affecting the public rather than allowing proceedings to be dominated by avoidable political confrontations.
Annamalai also stressed the need to encourage students to organise themselves and participate in political activities in colleges, saying greater political awareness among young people was important in a democracy.
His comments came amid widespread political debate over the conduct of legislators and the functioning of the current Assembly session.
Several leaders across the political spectrum have called for constructive discussions and greater focus on governance and public welfare.
Annamalai said the Legislature must retain its role as a platform where elected representatives raise the concerns of their constituents and seek solutions to pressing public issues.
