Chennai, Sept 3:
The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) marked its 70th anniversary on September 1, 2026, completing seven decades of providing financial protection and expanding life insurance coverage across the country.
Established on September 1, 1956, LIC continues to retain its leadership in India’s life insurance sector. In FY 2025-26, it held a 65.16% market share in policies and 56.66% share in first-year premium income, while its assets under management rose 5.08% to Rs 57.29 lakh crore.
LIC has expanded its presence through an extensive network of branches, agents and digital platforms, while offering life insurance, pension and market-linked products. Its digital initiatives, including the My LIC app, have further enhanced customer access and service delivery.
Through its Golden Jubilee Foundation, established in 2006, LIC has supported community development projects and education. The foundation has disbursed Rs 303 crore for 1,045 projects and provided 41,776 scholarships worth Rs 105.27 crore, according to the corporation.
As it enters its eighth decade, LIC said it remains committed to policyholders, employees, agents and other stakeholders, guided by its motto, “Yogakshemam Vahamyaham – Your welfare is our responsibility.”
