Yen Ennai Edho Seidhai is a romantic drama that chooses to walk its own path. Instead of following the familiar love-story template, D Anthony presents romance almost like a collection of poemsâsoft, emotional and occasionally haunting. The film revolves around a broken young man finding his way back to hope through love.
D Anthony, who has written, directed, edited, produced and acted in the film, brings a pleasing naturalness to the protagonist. His body language and dialogue delivery have a charming old-school quality. Madhumita Das is the film’s pleasant surprise. Her eyes do much of the talking, effectively conveying longing, sadness and affection. Their chemistry gives the romantic portions their emotional pull.
The supporting characters, particularly the heroâs friends, inject some welcome energy into the proceedings. Jeeva Ravi, though seen in a limited role as the heroâs father, makes an impact.
The first half is the stronger stretch, balancing friendship, fun and romance while steadily building curiosity. The second half takes a more leisurely route, with some scenes stretching longer than necessary. Still, the emotional thread remains intact.
Pietro Villaniâs cinematography gives the romance a warm, dreamy texture, while the songs by Jaikar Harinath and the background score by Joey Reda complement the mood nicely. The film was also made with sync sound, without dubbingâa noteworthy technical choice for a modestly scaled production.
What makes Yen Ennai Edho Seidhai interesting is its sincerity. It may have a few rough edges, but it never feels like it is desperately trying to impress. There is an innocence and poetic quality to the storytelling that stays with you.
