Immortal takes a familiar horror-thriller space and gives it an interesting Tamil twist. Directed by Mariyappan Chinna, the film brings together GV Prakash Kumar and Kayadu Lohar in a mysterious world where romance, fantasy and survival gradually collide.

GV Prakash fits the role perfectly as the relatable boy-next-door whose ordinary life takes a bizarre turn. His transition from curiosity to fear is handled nicely, while Kayadu Lohar gets the more intriguing character. She begins as a charming presence before revealing a much darker side, giving the film its biggest surprise factor.

The first half smartly builds curiosity before the interval twist opens the door to the real mystery. The second half moves into survival-thriller territory and keeps adding layers to the central secret. The creature angle gives Immortal a distinct identity and makes it different from the usual Tamil horror template.

Technically, the film scores well. Arun Radhakrishnan’s cinematography creates an eerie atmosphere, while Sam CS’ background score adds punch to the tense moments. The creature VFX by TOW VFX is another plus, lending credibility to the film’s fantasy world. The crisp editing also keeps the 131-minute runtime moving briskly.

The screenplay could have explored its intriguing premise with greater depth, and a few portions could have been tighter. But the film’s ambition, performances and unusual genre mix work in its favour.

Overall, Immortal is a neat and entertaining mystery-survival thriller that offers something different. GV Prakash and Kayadu Lohar make an engaging pair, while the creature mystery keeps the curiosity alive. For audiences looking for a refreshing fantasy-horror ride, Immortal makes a decent theatrical choice.
