Chennai, Oct 15:
The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) will consider its response if AIADMK legislators decide to switch sides, Health Minister K G Arunraj said on Wednesday, clarifying that his party was not actively seeking defections.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at Kilpauk Medical College, Arunraj said the party had no specific target or campaign to attract AIADMK MLAs.
โ€œIf those MLAs, because of factors within their own party, reject their leadership and come to us, let’s see. In due course, we will see,โ€ he said.
His remarks come amid political developments following the recent bypolls and continuing speculation over differences within the AIADMK.
Arunraj also announced that the Health Department would soon formally launch a positive health policy aimed at spreading preventive healthcare information among the public.
Referring to measures announced during the recent Budget session, he highlighted the importance of reducing salt consumption to tackle hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. He said the average daily salt intake in Tamil Nadu was estimated at 7 to 8 grams, above the World Health Organisation’s recommended limit of less than 5 grams.
