Actor Jiiva’s upcoming film ‘Thagappan’, produced by Lark Studios and directed by Ra. Venkat, will release in theatres worldwide on December 24. The makers announced the release date with a new poster, raising expectations for the family drama.
Set against the backdrop of Madurai and its surrounding areas, the film revolves around the relationship between a father and son, family bonds and human emotions. The makers said members of the public who witnessed portions of the shoot in Madurai were moved by the scenes and appreciated the team, adding to the anticipation surrounding the film.
Following ‘Thenavattu’, ‘Thagappan’ marks Jiiva’s return to a story set entirely in a rural backdrop. After the success of ‘TTT’, the actor’s association with a film rooted in the culture and atmosphere of Madurai has drawn attention. Rajisha Vijayan plays the female lead, while independent musician Marshall Robinson, who has worked with leading composers including Anirudh, has composed the music.
K. Kumar is producing the film, with M. Sukumar handling cinematography, Nagooran Ramachandran editing and K.B. Nandhapalan overseeing art direction. Mahesh Mathew choreographs the action sequences. M. Selvaraj is in charge of costumes, with Rithesh Selvaraj handling costume design, while T. Uday Kumar is responsible for sound recording. Theni Anbu is the still photographer.
R. Balakumar serves as executive producer, Prithiviraja Chinnasamy as distribution head, Yuvraj as public relations officer and Dinesh Ashok as publicity designer. Think Music has acquired the audio rights, while Zee Tamil has secured the satellite rights and ZEE5 the OTT rights even before completion of the film.
