The new-age voter expects something different from her/his leader. S/he wants someone who is active, adroit, approachable and affable to lead the State.
Though the political wheel of Tamilnadu always revolved around the AIADMK and the DMK (and the DMDK too, to an extent, during the last two Assembly elections), the race is incomplete without other players, who, despite having their own identities, are primarily known for forging alliances with one of the above parties.
With Tamilnadu politics undergoing a major overhaul due to the passing away of Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi, arrival of top stars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan and emergence of new leaders like Edappadi K Palaniswami and T T V Dhinakaran, it’s time for the three to undergo SWOT analysis, to know their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
It must be worrying time for Chief Minister Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister Panneerselvam.
What took everyone by surprise was his hurry, as he started the ‘Dharma Yuddham’ at his father’s ‘samadhi’ within a week of his death.
Barring the 13-day rule in 1996, during which he led his first government at the Centre and gained the distinction of shortest Prime Minister stint in India’s history, Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s remaining two tenures- from 1998 to 1999 and from 1999 to 2004- was closely linked to Tamilnadu politics.
